Best contact lenses for sport
The usage of prescription contacts with sports differs from common usage by the type of lenses and other circumstances. Sportsmen who normally wear eyeglasses, use contact lenses occasionally, for sports purpose. On the other hand sportsmen who use contact lenses daily, use them also for sport but sometimes they choose different type or different shape of contact lense according to the sports discipline.
Which contacts are the most suitable for sports?
In general, contacts with high content of free water in the material structure are the best for sports. As well as the thinner ones, perhaps the latest type of lens – the siliconehydrogel prescription contact lenses. The advantages of a thin lens with high free water content and a siliconehydrogel lens are in good transmittance of oxygen and so they provide very good conditions for supplying the cornea during the performance.
The most suitable type of contact lenses for sport are daily contact lenses. Everyday replacement of the lenses inhibits the accumulation of muss on the surface and also ensures minimum risk of lipid sediments formation. Their minimal thickness increases the comfort while wearing and, of course, they have higher transmittance of oxygen and they hold the moisture very well.
For some sports branches it is recommended to adjust the lenses for the particular sport, the lenses doesn't need to be the same as the one used during the day. Usually contacts with steeper curvature are chosen so they fit tighter, which decreases the risk of them falling out of the eye. The selection of the lenses is of course dependent on the anatomy of the cornea itself, the length of the usage and the experiences of the wearers but also their optometrist.
